CyberUp launches 2024 Cyber Industry Survey on updating the Computer Misuse Act 1990
Just 10 minutes of your time to help the new UK Government understand the impact of the Computer Misuse Act on the cyber security community.
Fill out the survey here before 23 August.
The CyberUp Campaign is leading the push for cyber security legislation that is fit for the challenges and threats of the 21st century. We believe updating the UK’s Computer Misuse Act 1990 (CMA) is key to this, as it is the main piece of legislation governing cybercrime in the UK.
We are now at a pivotal stage: the new Government has just introduced a Cyber Security and Resilience Bill in the King’s Speech — the first time ever that ‘cyber’ has been mentioned in any primary legislation — which presents an opportune moment for a legislative update to the CMA in the near future.
We urgently need your input to present decision-makers in the new Government with clear, up-to-date and indisputable evidence of how the Computer Misuse Act impacts cyber security researchers, professionals and businesses in the UK, so they are convinced of the necessity of this update.
We therefore ask you to complete our short survey, which will be used to demonstrate insights into the real impact of UK cyber-crime legislation on the growth and investment of the UK’s cyber security sector, as well as the effect on cyber defensive activities conducted domestically. Any assistance you can provide would be hugely welcome.
Given the sensitivity of some of the information you may provide, we will anonymise all of the results and any quotes you provide in the survey.
We estimate the survey to take no longer than 10 minutes.
We will also offer you an opportunity to state whether you would be happy to be contacted by the CyberUp Campaign for further discussion.
This really is a fantastic opportunity to capitalise on the legislative momentum the campaign and the wider sector have generated over several years, and we cannot do this without your collective voices. Please complete the survey yourselves, and share it widely with your colleagues, friends and networks across the UK cyber security community.
You will have until 23 August to complete it.
