The final push: all we need is 15 minutes of your time to help the UK government understand the impact of the Computer Misuse Act on the cyber security community. Start the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/P2SPTMP.

The CyberUp Campaign is leading the push for cyber security legislation that is fit for the challenges and threats of the 21st century – we believe reform of the UK’s Computer Misuse Act 1990 (CMA) is key to this. The CMA is the main piece of legislation governing cybercrime in the UK.  The Government is currently engaging with stakeholders on reform of the Act. We are now at a crucial stage: the UK government will decide on a way forward in the next weeks! in this engagement as it comes to a conclusion in the coming months and the Home Office will take a decision on a way forward.

We urgently need your input support to present decision-makers Government with a clear and indisputable evidence base snapshot of how the Computer Misuse Act impacts upon cyber security researchers, professionals and businesses in the UK, so they have all relevant information as make their decision. We therefore ask you to complete a short survey which will help deliver This work will be used to gain insights into the real impact of UK cyber-crime legislation on undertaking cyber defensive activities domestically and its effect on the growth and investment of the UK’s cyber security sector. This will help us build an evidence base to inform this final stage of the Home Office engagement on reforming the CMA and to shape future government policy in this area. Any assistance you can provide would be hugely welcome.

Given the sensitivity of some of the information you may provide, We will anonymise all of the results and any quotes you provide in the survey, but  attributed here in preparing the report. We estimate the survey to take no longer than 20 minutes.  We will also but offer you an opportunity for you to record if you would be happy to be contacted by the CyberUp Campaign for further discussion. Depending on whether you are responding as an individual or organisation, or whether you specialise in threat intelligence or security vulnerability research, you will be directed to different questions throughout the survey.

This really is the final push – and we cannot do it without you. Please complete the survey yourselves, and share it widely with your colleagues, friends and networks across the UK cyber security community. You will have until Monday 2 October 2023 to do so.
